Today was a pro-d day (professional development day for those non educators out there). It's a day to improve on our skills as teachers and support staff. Now normally I'm at "stay in the class" kind of gal. I wish people would leave me alone and let me do my job. But every once and awhile someone comes along with a new concept or even an old concept revisited which makes a lot of sense and causes me to re-evaluate the way I teach. Today was one of those days.
The presenter of the workshop I signed up for has dedicated her career to teaching other educators about this method of learning. It's backed up by huge amounts of scientific research and is being practiced in classes world wide. It's one of those things that makes you think "now why didn't I think of that?".
But anyway, it's not the topic of the workshop that I'm thankful for today (although I will do my best to put it into practice immediately!), it's the presenter of this workshop and many others like it. I appreciate when someone finds something they believe in and practice what they preach. They don't just do it lip service, they actually dedicate large chunks of their lives to help others catch their passion. I think it's a true testimony to what we believe if we're willing to share those thoughts and beliefs with others instead of hoarding the precious information to ourselves. I'm thankful for those out there who can't wait to share their wisdom and expertise with others. Thank-you for your time and dedication in making the world a better place! A.
