Good pain

I am a distance runner.  I run steady and I get the job done but no one would be able to say that I "run like the wind!".
Today at track practice, we were missing a student for one of the relay teams so I volunteered to take his place.  Did I mention I'm a distance runner?  Not only did I have to help the team out by running as fast as I could, I also had to prove myself as a teacher that I could sprint as fast or faster than the students.  My quads were not happy with me!  I was hobbling for quite awhile after practice.
I'm happy to say that I did quite well in the practice race, helped my team finish in a very good time and I didn't embarrass myself.  Unless you count the fact that running two practice relay sections turned me into a cripple!  (I'm fine now, thanks for asking.  It was only tightened up for an hour or less).
It really does feel good to use muscles that aren't used to being used and to be reminded of the capability those muscles have.  It's a good hurt :)  A.
