Science Fair Projects

Yes, I said it - I'm thankful for Science Fair projects.  As a teacher, they are one of the greatest opportunities ever for students to explore and expand their horizons and knowledge base.  As a parent, they are the bane of my existence.  If I have to tell someone how to spell "hypothesis" one more time...!  However, this year our household (because truly, who does a Science fair project all by themselves?) is working on a spud launcher.  Did you hear that pop?  It just went off.  I'm not entirely sure what the actual experiment is yet but the cannon is made out of pvc pipes (I learn so much from doing these projects) and one of the launched potatoes has already destroyed the dog house siding from 200 feet away.  This thing can do damage!  The thankful part?  Yes, I'm getting to that.  The thankful part is that my two boys have explored different options for hours on the internet, drawn diagrams and agreed and disagreed on the best way to build this thing.  And my husband is totally right in there with them, giggling like a little girl as they add the igniter stuff before the bang.  I'm thankful for little boys (and big boys) making Science fair projects together, blowing things up and hopefully fixing that dog house before it gets any colder again.
